About the Artist

Jake Knopke is a Kansas City–based abstract artist whose work lives at the intersection of movement and structure—where kinetic energy meets atmospheric depth, and ethereal space is grounded by deliberate form. His paintings are not pre-planned compositions, but evolving environments shaped through instinct, response, and restraint.

Working across a wide range of materials—from canvas to concrete—Jake builds his surfaces using acrylic, resin, soft pastels, charcoal, pencil, spray paint, oil, and even unconventional elements like coffee. Each material carries its own voice, and each mark is a decision—an intentional placement of energy in a specific moment in time.

Layering is central to his process. Every layer represents a choice: to reveal, to obscure, to preserve, or to let go. What remains visible is only part of the story. What’s covered holds equal weight. His work captures a sense of history—of moments built up, broken down, and reimagined. It reflects cycles of rebirth, renewal, growth, and change, while embracing impermanence and imperfection as essential elements of beauty.

There is a constant tension in his work between control and intuition. Structured lines and geometric forms emerge alongside raw, gestural movement. Some areas are precise and intentional; others are instinctive and unpredictable. This push and pull creates a visual language that feels both grounded and alive.

Jake’s paintings are less about a fixed meaning and more about an experience—an invitation to feel, interpret, and connect. Each piece exists as a record of transformation, where energy is not only created, but continuously reshaped.
